What should I set my amp controls to for the best sound?

Author: Katalin  //  Category: Uncategorized

I have a 10″ kicker solo x hooked up to a ma audio hk4000d mono amp and I’m having trouble getting the sound wanted. My box was specifically made for my sub(1″ thick all around) by fatbox & I think its tuned to 34Hz. I currently have my all my controls set 1/2 to the max(Gain, bass eq,low pass, & sonic sub) but I feel there is more bass than wanted on some songs(like I’m hearing bass when I feel I shouldnt). Where should I set my amp controls to get the best sound out of my door speakers and sub? Does the low pass control deal w/the door speakers or sub also? Is there a need to have the “sonic sub” control turned up at all b/c I dont hear any difference when turning it up or down? Should I turn my “bass eq” control down to loss some bass? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I have a 4ch Audiobahn amp running my 4 door speakers. The ma audio amp is powering my sub only.

I hate saying it to people, but that amplifier is trash. Ma Audio is a gimmick brand which rates there products, and exaggerates on the power it is pushing. If you want a nice amplifier, try JL Audio, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Kenwood, and any other brand name amplifier to get good results. Usually good ones are CEA-2006 Compliant which means they’ve been tested to perform their rated power. However, brands like JL Audio and Kicker push well over their desired limit, removing them from the CEA-2006 list. I like JL because no matter whether your alternator is pushing 11-14v, you’re still getting the watts its rated at. These brands are very expensive, don’t think real power will come cheap. If you’re on a budget, I’d suggest investing into a Hifonics amplifier, particularly the Bx2010D to run that subwoofer. Hope I helped, good luck!

Okay, first off, I can’t tell you where to set your gains because every amp, cd player and set of speakers will change the answer to that question.

    As for the rest.
Bass EQ – turn it off entirely, it produces distortion and should only be used by experts.

    Subsonic filter.
(this cuts off bass BELOW a certain frequency)
    –set it for about 25.

is that a four channel amp running one sub and two door speakers?

If it is, there should be two sets of controls (bass eq, gain, etc)
-one set will control the sub, one will control the doors.

If not, you’re not going to be able to get very much power to the sub, because as you turn up the gain it effects the subs and speakers at the same time. So the sub has to stop increasing as soon as you max the speakers.
